Linda and Chris are travelling with their parents around Russia. Right now they are in Moscow, in the Tretyakov Gallery. They are looking at different pictures and sharing their impressions with each other. Listen to their dialogues about each of the following pictures and guess which picture they are discussing. You will hear the dialogues twice. Now you have 1 minute to study the pictures.

(Pause 30 seconds)

Now we begin.

Dialogue 1.

1. Why do you think they are looking at us?
2. At us? Hmmm…. It does seem like they are looking at us, doesn’t it?
3. Yes! But why?
4. Maybe somebody is saying something to them? Something important?
5. Yes! They look very attentive. Very serious.

Dialogue 2.

1. Do you think it’s heavy?
2. Oh, I’m sure it is! Especially for them! They don’t look very strong. They are probably hungry.
3. I love the dog. It looks like it’s trying to help!
4. I know! It’s one of them! It’s trying to cheer them up!

Dialogue 3.

1. Can you tell what is written on the board?
2. Not really. Some kind of math problem?
3. Probably. I wish we had blackboards like this at school.
4. Yes. I love writing with chalk.
5. I think they have a great teacher.
6. It certainly looks that way. They seem to like him very much!

Dialogue 4.

1. Now that’s what I call a good storyteller! Look how everyone is listening! Both, old and young!
2. It must be some interesting story! A fairy tale maybe! Or something scary!
3. I’m sure it is scary! And the darkness in the room makes it even more so!
4. I love scary stories!
5. Me too!

Dialogue 5.

1. School again!
2. Yes! Do you think they are bullying her?
3. I don’t know. Maybe. They certainly don’t look very friendly, and she looks quite scared!
4. Look at those desks! I love them! Do you remember our grandpa telling us about such desks?
5. Yes, I do! Hey, can you figure out what’s written on the blackboard?
6. Some kind of math problem, I think. Again!
7. Yes! Just like in the other picture!

Dialogue 6.

1. Aww! These children are so cute!
2. I know!
3. Do you think she is scared?
4. I think she’s used to things like that. She is definitely in a hurry, but she is not scared.
5. I love the little one! So adorable!
6. Little and adorable but heavy, still!
7. Yeah… must be very heavy for her!

Dialogue 7.

1. Oh, look at that dog! What a good friend!
2. I know! Cheering him up!
3. I love his bag! Look at the skates!
4. Oh, it’s so funny!
5. Funny for us! He doesn’t look that happy, though!
6. No… He looks terribly sad!

Dialogue 8.

1. What do you think he is saying?
2. Oh, I’m sure, he’s telling some scary story!
3. Yes! Maybe something that had happened to him before?
4. He looks like a good storyteller. See how the others are looking at him?
5. Yes. I like the girl. She has a very serious expression on her face.
6. They all look serious!
